When taking over as treasurer of a not for profit corporation, I followed the previous treasurer in having Bob prepare our annual IRS return for us. He did that and explained the parts of the return that I was not familiar with. So far, the IRS has sent neither of us to prison, so I am happy about that. The real reason for my rating is that the board requested a full audit of the books. The number of financial transactions and the total amounts did not justify spending up to ten percent of the treasury for such an audit. Nonetheless, the board still wanted at least a financial review. Bob was patient enough to arm me with the necessary background to show the board how to do their own review of the books in one hour at the en of the fiscal year. Obviously, Bob could have picked up some nice cash from our organization but continually did the correct thing for the benefit of our organization instead.
