Great Customer Service

Yes, you may pay a little more at Backwoods than you would at REI, but they have wonderful customer service. Their staff is very knowledgeable about all of the products they carry. They are helpful without being pushy. The manager, Paul, is a wealth of knowledge. The store is a bit cramped, I would like it more if they expanded. But then again, I am used to REI and the former Mountain High (Wichita). If you love the outdoors, check out this store.

Expert help, great products, great experience

Expert help, great products, super service, beautiful store. This year has taken me throughout Scandinavia, 3,000 miles across China and Tibet from Beijing to Everest, and throughout the backcountry of Uganda. On each trip, I've used more than a few things recommended to me by the staff at Backwoods, things that I now consider indispensable for all of my travel and outdoors activities. I couldn't recommend them more.

Fantastic store, staff, company - EVERYTHING!

I stumbled upon Backwoods a few years ago and I cannot say enough good things about it! They have everything you want in a great, quality, outdoor adventure store. Their staff is top notch! They really take the time to help you find what you're searching for and they make sure you get the right size, model, fit, etc., so your outdoor adventures are the best they can be.



I've been thinking a lot lately about getting a GPS device. I stopped by Backwoods because I remembered seeing them there before and I was pleasantly surprised that they did not try and sell me the most expensive one. The gentleman I spoke to asked me a few questions about why I wanted it, what are the main things I would use it for and if there were any specific features I had to have on it. He narrowed it down and explained the difference between the different brands and models and explained about the two models I'd mainly been drawn to. He wrote them out and told me where I could go online and compare the two (plus compare the others there as well if I wanted to), just so I could be sure I made the right decision before I buy it. Wanting your customers to feel empowered to make the right purchasing decision is what I call outstanding customer service!

I am a fly angler and heard about Backwoods from a fellow angler. These guys know their stuff. I went in to get some fly tying material and found out that they do classes on flyfishing, fly tying and even run their own guided trips. I told the salesperson what fly I wanted to tie and he knew it and knew exactly what materials I needed to tie it. I have found my new home away from home. When I go into Backwoods its like a kid in a candy store.

I clicked on the Backwoods hyperlink thinking it was going to take me to Backwoods.com but all it did was bring up a map. There is already a link labled map to click if I wanted the map.
