my central air unit stopped working so i called a couple of businesses to get some estimates. so i first called Pro-Air in Whitman,MA. The gentleman came out fairly quick. he told me i would be $100.00 to evaluate the unit to find out what was wrong. he looked at it and found that the compressor was gone with a puddle of oil underneath it. So he gave me a price to replace it, then left telling me if i used him the $100.00 would be towards the job. He was gone within 5 mins. and never looked inside my basement to see if any additional work would be needed. But i wanted a second estimate so i called another company which was a free estimate but also it was checked out thoroughly outside and inside which was determined that i needed inside work done also. i decided to go with the second company which was a more accurate estimate. i didn't use Pro-Air because it would have cost me more money had he checked the inside of my basement. the second estimate was slightly cheaper but it also included the extra work that needed to be done inside. Needless to say i chose the more accurate estimate. And yes it did cost me $100.00 for a half-assed first estimate
