I have visited the shelter many times to pet the cats. The owner is a great lady who trys her best with the limited resources.

Never Had anything but Good Experiences. If you have a bad one, you should talk with the management about what happened.

On my visit to the shelter on March 2, I witnessed two incidents of animal mistreatment by the proprietor.

Her solution to disentangling the claws of a cat from a visitor's jacket was to pry & swat the cat's paws with a stick, obviously stressing out the cat even more, & upsetting those of us who witnessed this behavior.

Shortly thereafter, her solution to stopping two cats from fighting was to come in between them & kick them.

There were other red flags- two traumatized animals in cages by the front door & cats in cages in the back room that the volunteers blocked me from getting close to.

Several of the cats did not respond to my catnip- very unusual for a cat- they seemed unwilling/unable to rouse themselves- in the middle of the day- also unusual cat behavior.

I filed the above complaint with the BBB- they closed the case because the business refused to respond- another reason why this business should be shut down.

A shelter is where one should be safe.....

Wow...I called to see about dropping off two kittens because of a roommate having a severe allergy and the gal just wanted to set up a spay/neuter appointment then she proceeded to tell me they had no room for any kittens. Yeah, great help...NOT. I've volunteered at animal shelters, worked in veterinary hospitals, and NEVER have I been told an animal must be spayed/neutered BEFORE the shelter could find room for them. Most reputable shelters have at least one or more area vets who work with them to spay/neuter surrendered animals. It seems obvious that this shelter does not have a relationship with an area veterinarian which speaks volumes. I'm sure the owner cares for animals very much but so do hoarders. Seems as if someone might have bitten off more than they can chew. Sad.

...loving animals

I adopted 2 kittens from PAWS. Yes, I have to admit that there were some vet bills I had due to respiratory infections and ringworm, but that does not detract from the loving pets I have in my family. They are now adult cats and all my neighbors, friends, and visitors remark on their personable and loving natures. It is neccessary to realize that this shelter does not have the same support as the Humane Society or even animal control. It is run by people who love animals and the evidence is shown by the animals. I will adopt again from PAWS and have to state that the person who mentioned putting down an animal because it had feline leukemia was uninformed and acted foolishly. These animals can live full lives with a little extra care and with other infected animals. If you don't want to take on that responsibility, then return the animal to the shelter.
