I called the Humane Society in October to see if they could accept a surrender. I could no longer afford to care for my pet because my husband lost part of his income and I had to feed my family before I fed my beloved pet. The decision to surrender my pet/child was very difficult for me to make but it was the only thing I could do. When I called the Antietam Humane Society of Waynesboro Pa. ,the staff member who answered the phone was very rude and flat out told me that they could not accept my pet because I live in a different state. I live only a 1/2 mile away from this shelter verses 10 or so miles away from the nearest shelter in my state. I was flabbergasted, I had adopted from this shelter many times in the past and also had given them donations when they sent their fliers in the mail. I couldn't believe how nasty , bad-mannered, and surly this staff member had been to me on the phone. I will never again, send a donation to or recommend anyone to adopt from this Humane Society. I pity any animal that is under the care of this place. If the staff is that rude and abrasive to humans , how are they treating the poor animals behind closed doors?

Plan On contacting family attorney is regards to recent treatment by your staff - We were lied to and generally treated like dirt - We have adopted two dogs in the past 20 years from the Antietam and Chambersburg Humane Society and were so impressed with the humane society that they were written into our will for 50 Percent - We will have our attorney re-write the will and find another organization to give our money to . As A reminder - We came in on Saturday - 5-11-2014 - Found a dog ( Twilight ) -- mix shepherd female - Tried to Adopt and were generally shocked when we found out the dog wasn't neutered yet , and our paperwork couldn't be looked at until Monday - We were told at the time that we were the first one to apply for the dog . And that our application would be either approved or denied by Monday ( 5-13-2014 ). When we called on Monday were told the dog was being neutered on Tuesday - Pick him up on Thursday or Friday - Called on Thursday - were told that someone else had their application for the dog before ours and that we might still be able to get the dog if the other person decided they didn't want her . My wife gave your staff a small piece of her mind - we are not used to being treated like - dirt - I called the Antietam Humane Society - Talked to the same person - she complained about my wife's attitude and said she was going to decide in less than a hour and would call us back - She never did . As of tonight 5-16-2012 the dog is still on your website . I would like to know who is in charge at the Antietam Humane Society so I can complain and explain our deep disappointment and contempt for the manner we were treated.
