Chartered in 1919, the American Legion is one of the nation s largest veterans service organizations focused on mentoring/sponsoring youth programs in communities, advocating patriotism and promoting national security. It operates a number of programs, including Child Welfare Foundation, Legion Racing, Heroes to Hometowns and Legion college/riders. Additionally, the organization conducts various activities, such as oratorical contests, shooting sports, scouting and conventions/meetings. The American Legion serves through various sources, including family support network, national emergency funds, scholarships and youth support, among others.
