I visited Energy Unlimited of New England in Wayland, MA after meeting two representatives at a home show, who spoke highly of their products and services. The showroom is unwelcoming and extremely cluttered as compared to other fireplace showrooms I visited before and after visiting Energy Unlimited. The salesman was unfriendly and did not acknowledge me until I asked questions 30 minutes after the customer he was attending to left. Granted he was attending to another customer, however, the trade practice is to, at the very least, greet your customers and say, “I will be right with you.” Instead, he stood there while the customer looked at the catalogue (a perfect time to greet your waiting customers), while I prominently stood and waited to be addressed.



After the customer left, I initiated the conversation, which was clearly a “forced” interaction. The salesman’s responses were short and unfriendly. Nevertheless, I gave him my telephone number and asked to be contacted for a home estimate. He wrote my telephone number (without my name) on a small piece of paper he ripped off from another piece of paper. I thought that was unprofessional, and I expected that the store would have a more sophisticated recording method. As soon as I saw that not only he wrote my number on this little piece of paper, but also did not bother to write my name, I figured that it would go in trash as soon as I left the store. Yet, while leaving the store, I still hoped that someone from the store would contact me. Today is April 3, 2014 and my first visit to the store was on March 22, 2024. Not only I have not heard back from anyone, but also no one returned my call after I left a recorded message with my contact info.



So, today April 3, 2014, I will call once more and this time I will ask to speak with the owner of the store. I will explain the situation, and I will ask again if they are interested in my business. If not… I will update you on my next step. So stay tuned.
