I hired Midwest Engineering Services to test my windows and walls for lead paint with an XRF (lead gun) before I had the windows replaced in my house which was built in 1975, and it really worked out great! ...I would reccomend them to anybody that wants to save money on window or door replacement, or other remodeling costs for houses built before 1978 ...I would have had to pay about $75 more per window (a total of $900 more!) to have them installed because of the lead renovation law unless I had the paint on the windows and walls tested to prove that there was no lead. ...I found out that the test kits you can buy in the hardware stores are'nt acceptable by WI standards, and I needed to find a certified lead tester to do it. ...I called around to a few places, but Midwest Engineering was one of the few with an XRF and seemed like the most experienced and would do it for a reasonable price. ...It was easy to arrange the testing, the tester showed up on-time, was friendly and knowledgable about what he was doing, and it took less than a 1/2 hour...He told me the test results as soon as he finished (no lead!), and emailed the test report to me to give to my window contractor in 2 days ...Saved me over $500 that I would have to pay and there wasn't even any lead paint! ...Also, it was just good to know I don't have lead paint, since i also have 2 young kids ...It was all well worth it!
