I had a pump-up sewage tank that wasn't pumping. Called Mark, who replaced the pump and talked about how the new one was the best there is and worth the cost. He installed the pump, charged me $250 for the service call and also billed me $460 for a pump that I later learned goes for $270 retail. During that call the check (one-way) valve wasn't working properly, but he left it as is. A couple of days later, the pump still would not work and I called him back. A few weeks later, he sent his brother to replace the valve and again told me what a great valve the new one is even though it's expensive. For the 20 minutes he was working he charged me another $125 for the service call even though it wasn't fixed after the first service call. I was also billed $80 for the new valve, which cost $40 retail everywhere. With all of that I am assuming that the pump will now work, and I also had to clean up all of the debris and disposed-of parts after both calls and they needed my rags to clean up spilled water. This was my first experience with Cipriano Plumbing. It will also be my last.
Last Update: I have paid Cipriano $1000 for a job that should have cost me half that and the pump they installed still doesn't work. I would rate them Zero stars if I could. They even came back and tried to make it work, but the pump-up still doesn't and I am still out $1000. Done with Cipriano. You should be too, or perhaps installing a pump that works is just too complex for them. I guess I will have to find a plumber that knows what they are doing.

Mark's brothers, James Rayta, & Myers Rayta, work under Mark Rayta, (Cipriano Plumbing and Heating). They do home repairs and painting and Mark told us that he "would send over his brothers; they do great work and they are really cheap. Do you want me to send them over? I said "Yes".

They came over on Monday, Dec. 24. On paper James quoted us, "$300 for outside wood, $200 for inside paint for two windows, and $500 for labor. Total today $1,000 to start". Verbally we discussed just doing the inside painting and replacing boards on the shed ramp ( 11 pressure treated boards - 5 1/2" x 1" by 48 ") and if there was any leftover money, we would have other work for them.

They worked 3 1/4 hrs Monday, 12/24 (including 2 hrs. time buying materials at Home Depot). The total of the materials was approximately $175.

So:

They worked 3 1/4 hrs. on Monday, 12/24, left early, excuse - Christmas shopping.

They worked 3 hrs. on Wednesday 12/26, left early, excuse - another appointment.

They worked 1 1/4 hrs. on Friday 12/28

Total hours 7 1/2 hrs. So it was a total of 7 1/2 hrs. labor and $175 materials.

I went to Home Depot and checked the prices with help of a HD employee. When they came back today (12/28) they wanted more money for more material and labor. They said they didn't have any money left and that they

had applied the material money to labor. James said they need to get $250 per day even if it isn't a full day. That $250 per day was never even mentioned in our prior-job talk.

They didn't need 3 days to do 7 1/2 hrs. work. We told them they owed us $300 back for materials since they only spent less than $200 on them ($500 minus $200). They argued with us, and left saying we cheated them. They have not yet given us a receipt for the materials.

They cheated us by misrepresenting their costs and labor up front. Basically, if we don't get any money back, we will have paid more than $100 per hour for labor ($200 materials and $800 for 7 1/2 hrs. labor = $1,000).

Incidentally, we had to do touch up work of several hours for parts of the window painting that corners or sides of the window frame along the wall etc. were missed completely or parts where the second coat appeared not to be done completely because the wood showed through the paint on the face plates.

I would like to make other potential customers aware of these frauds.

We are senior citizens who have been scammed!
