To my knowledge, they don't use anesthesia while spaying and neutering. It's too expensive is what I was told. I will always pay top dollar when I spay and neuter my furbabies.

They spayed my dog, and she died the next day. Then they offered to do a autopsy to see if the surgery went bad. I told them i know they will lie their faces off to me regardless of what they find inorder for them not to get a lawsuit or a refund. I lost a companion, the vet didnt even have the curtesy of telling me why my dog died after they performed surgery, instead i get a phone call stating my dogs was healty and her heart and liver were okay but they dont know excatly why she passed away. But her heart seemed to small for the anesthsia. She was 2 1/2 years old i pet her at 3 a.m before i went to work, my wife saw her at 6 a.m. she was fine. And at 8 a.m. my daughter found her laying dead. It was a mistake of taking her there, when i walked in the day of my dogs death i noticed there clinic seemed dirty and neglected. I do not recomend this place to anyone

I do not know how this shelter runs its every day business, however I did have a very unpleasant experience with the shelter staff. We were dining at a local restaurant at the same time the VBSPCA was having some type of meeting, and their behavior reflected very poorly on the organization. They were loud, rowdy and unprofessional, and when we asked them (privately and politely) to take the volume down one notch so that we coukd hear eaxh other at the table, we were dismissed with a snobby "we're almost done". The real kicker came later, however, when one of the members cornered me in the bathroom and screamed in my face, saying that we ahouldnt have a problem because "we're the spca". When the manager and waiter confronted them about their behavior, they simply rolled their eyes and never apologized. We also overheard a conversation between members in which one asked how many fundraisers they held per year, and the other responded "too many". They were not there for the cause, simply the tax break. Sad.

I have adopted several dogs from local SPCA's and I will never go back to the Virginia Beach SPCA! I give this animal shelter no stars! The staff didn't want to help and the questions I had were never answered and they acted like we were bothering them. The only thing they did do was give me a sheet of paper on how to adopt a pet and told me to check their web site. All three of our local news stations reported a story about dogs that were rescued from a puppy farm in West Virginia and they all stated that the Virginia Beach SPCA wanted people to come and adopt the animals. I have since contacted all three stations and told them they might want to check into that because no one is willing to help or answer any questions about these animals. Since I called I have not seen the story being reported. I really feel sorry for the animals and hope they all do find homes away from that shelter!
