I have to say I'm am so thankful to these people. I had to rush my kitten in who was almost dead due to neglect from another vet in vestal . They have now has my kitten for 2 days and she is coming back to life. If it wasn't for them she would be dead now Yes it's pricey and I told them I could not pay the day I brought her in and they still saw her. Yes the treatment will cost use over 1000 which we not have but they will take payments and that's great for me as they have done whatever they can to save our kitten. And with visiting hours it's awesome that we can go see her ourselves. They call me and update me through the day and answer any questions that we have.

They have the best animal care around. Doctors and staff are compassionate and knowledgeable. All my animals have received first rate care there during boarding, exams and emergency visits. They have worked out payment plans when I've needed extra time to pay the bill. Some people who patronize vets who are not part of their cooperative shared emergency service plan blame them when told they need to call Cornell for emergency service. All vets are eligible to join in cooperative care with Vestal Vet - those that don't leave it up to Vestal rather than themselves to explain that their clients need to travel to Cornell in an emergency!

They are not the cheapest vets around but they are the best. From puppy or kittenhood through senior care - the staff and doctors at Vestal are there to help, teach encourage and, when necessary, provide a hug or a shoulder to cry on. Don't settle for second rate - treat your pet to the best - take him/her to Vestal Vet!

these vets give vets a bad name

My bulldog was taken there last week because our family vet was closed for the day. My family was given a $900 estimate for diagnostics (and meds they didn't know which ones they were even going to give). The dog was having a hard time breathing. Being in the same field and a client that day..said money is an issue and need to test conservatively so that treatment can be done. The vet was very rude to my parents and me. She performed certain diagnostics, and could not even read them correctly. She gave the wrong diagnosis and wanted further diagnostics that were not necessary. Not once after testing was done did she offer any type of comfort or treatment for a hard time breathing bulldog. She was given the ok (without the knowledge that she was giving the wrong diagnosis) for the further testing but then said she didn't have time to perform that day. To schedule for the next morning. She refused to treat without those tests performed. My dog went home that evening worse than when he went in. He couldn't swallow a pill. He was never given anything injectable to help his suffering. 10 mins after being home he collapsed and died. He never would have made it under sedation for testing they wanted. They thrive on having all the tests before treating. In this day and age, there are alot of tests that can be run but with the economy, test what you can to get the best answer, and then treat to make the dog comfortable. As a veterinarian with a vast amount of knowledge, she sure didn't use any common sense or compassion. As a veterinarian, the CLIENT always dictates what you can do and you have to use what you got to make the best of a situation. They should offer every test NECESSARY, but do what the client feels comfortable doing and can afford to get the best picture. That was a family pet and they did not care unless they were getting paid!!..I hope a lot of people read this and hesitate before calling that vet. There are much better vets in that area than them!!!

Worst Vets Ever

I used them several times because I lived in the neighborhood. First of all they are very overpriced. The vet care is less than wonderful. My mom took her dog there and she had cancer. They wouldn't operate due to her age and said she had weeks to live and she should be put down. The dog had a tumor on her rib cage and was perfectly health otherwise. She played and ate and acted like a young dog still. I told my mom to ignore then since it obviously wasn't afecting her physically. We gave the dog good food already, antioxidants and cancer fighting foods and supplements and she lived 4 more years. She went down in the last three months and we had her put down. Second example was my Bernese Mountain Dog. She slipped on the ice and didn't break anything but sprained her shoulder and back leg. I brought her in had x-rays and they told me she wouldn't walk again so we needed to put her down. I told them to give me some a pain reliever and I would handle the rest. I made her a cart with wheels so we could get her outside. With her meds, me helping her exercise her limbs and lots of TLC she recovered completely within 4 months and lived 5 more years. Last case and last time I ever went there I took my son's dog there and told them something was off, but I couldn't tell them exactly what. My son had this dog from the time he was three and he was 13. The vet told me he was just fat and needed to lose some weight. I argued and asked them to do a blood work-up. He seemed odd, but I couldn't put my finger on it I just saw that he didn't feel good in his eyes. He looked like he was in pain, but was one of those dogs that would try not to act like it. The vet told me that he was fine and assured me it wasn't necessary. I went home and told my very distraught son what I had been told much to his relief. A week later the dog was dead and we still don't know why. So in essence they wanted to kill two of my pets without treating them or giving them a chance and they didn't test the other which resulted in his death. Go at your own risk.
