There is no mechanic quite so wonderful as Stanley Norwoods, especially if you are a woman. I dislike having to put that out there, but the fact is, women most dfefinitely do get charged higher prices and are subjected to blatant fraud by many mechanics. I once put a dab of pink nail polish on an engine part that needed replacing, knowing the mechanic would show it to me. He didn't disappoint, except he showed me a part that looked nothing like the one I'd dabbed the polish onto, so of course I didn't need to look for the dab of polish. I told the mechanic I'd have to talk to my husband (I'm single), got my car back and got the hell out of there. Every mechanic I went to after that, did the same damned thing, until I told the last one that I'd marked the part, quoted him a price that a male friend had called and asked for ahead of time, and told him to fix the damned car or I'd report him to the state agency that issues his license. Got 'er done, pronto. This will NEVER happen with Stanley, Ladies. Stanley is a gentleman who looks out for and takes care of women with respect and consideration. Ladies, you will never be overcharged or lied to or ripped off by Stanley. In his old shop, the walls of the waiting room were lined with his numerous training certificates. There's nothing he doesn't know about your car; but if he is swamped with work and thinks another mechanic could do it just as well, he will refer you to that mechanic. He doesn't have a bad bone in his body. He will call you and tell you exactly what is wrong, he will spend a lot of time trying to get you the best deal by shopping around for the most inexpensive reasonably good parts if you're broke, or he will find you the best quality part at the best price, he will go to junk yards searching for parts, he will go online searching for parts, he will do the best work and never cut corners, he'll take pictures and send them to you for your approval or information, he'll let you know if he comes across another problem, and no matter what, he will always work with you for the best possible solution that gets you back on the road again asap, and he will keep you updated by phone the whole time. There have been times when he came by my home to pick up my vehicle, there have been times when he gives me a ride home after I drop off my vehicle, there was one time when he sent a mechanic to change out the starter in my truck because I couldn't afford the $50 flatbed tow by his buddy Jim (yes, really, $50 for a flatbed tow!). You will love the treatment you get, and you will begin to dread the day that Stanley retires; I know I do! Best of all, Stanley loves kitties, he takes care of strays around his shop and his home, and he loves to see pics of mine. Run, don't walk, to the shop on Lull Street in Van Nuys. You won't regret it.
