I went in to "discount" Hobo Joe's a few years ago to purchase some NEW luggage for an upcoming trip. I was bent on buying the least expensive item I could find that would get the job done. But, the sales lady was successful in upselling me on a "nicer" travel garment bag.



I get home and discover that the little ID tag had been pre-filled...with a previous customer's name, address, etc. Upon closer inspection there was lint, debris and other evidence of a used piece of luggage. I admit I did not fully inspect the item before purchase, but I thought I was in a retail establishment, not the Goodwill.



Hobo Joe's refused to admit the error even when shown the evidence. I even called the previous owner (as I had his name and number) and he verified he returned the item to them. Apparently Hobo Joe's has a return limit on their USED merchandise.



I called the manager, tried to call the owner (never got back to me). I went to the BBB (useless organization BTW), solicited the help of the OK attorney general (equally useless). And finally, when I brought the matter up to my credit card company the time limit had expired for me to contest the charges. Lesson learned.



In summary: I demonstrated beyond a shadow of doubt that Hobo Joe's sold me USED merchandise and passed it off as new, yet they refused to refund my purchase. To me, that is dishonest, deceptive and fraudulent. But when I brought it to their attention Hobo Joe's gave me the bum's rush. Anyone need a good garment bag? Gently used.
