:( Patty

It seems to me that if you are this upset about what is going on you would move you father to another location. I know that these ladies take very good care of the residents. I think that you are bitter about the race of these ladies. That is very sad to me because they step up and do a job that you refuse or can not do. Instead of talking trash about these ladies you should thank them and pat them on the back if you dare touch them! May God comfort you and wash your worries away.

Quality of Care, Staff Commitment

My father has resided at Quail Ridge in Tucumcari New Mexico since September 2008. I have mixed feelings regarding his care. In all fairness to Quail Ridge I will say there are a few committed and dedicated staff who provide quality care which is obviously required. There are other staff however which their behaviors resulting in quality care absolutely concern me. It is difficult for me to understand how painting one's own fingernails, answering personal cell phones, or watching television (favorite show) is a part of providing care. In addition it is my understanding a majority if not all of the residents are English speaking. Recently, over the past month, I have gone in to the facility, only when the Administrator is not on duty, and hear staff speaking in a language other than the language spoken by the residents. I have been told one staff member is learning English and it is okay for her to speak in a language other than English and staff are to respond only in English to assist her in learning. This makes sense and is most likely an effective tool in learning however that is not the case. Conversations in the language occur, ongoing conversations between staff. The television in the commons area is also on a nonEnglish speaking channel after residents are in their rooms. I do have concerns with anyone caring for my father or other elderly persons when they are not fluent in speaking and/or understanding the language of the elderly people they are trusted to care for. I am also concerned with the television watching. Obvisouly the television is not on the nonEnglish channel for the residents but for staff. I do expect care for my father and care does not include staff watching television, visiting w/each other, answering their personal cell phones, doing their nails, or "learning" to speak and/or understand the language of those who are dependent upon them for care. Effective communication is this type of setting is crucial.
