My background in tennis greatly impacted my achievements in medicine. I completed an undergraduate degree in kinesiology because I had an interest in sports and how it affected the human body on a greater scale physiologically. Through that experience, my love for medicine grew and my interest in cardiovascular medicine started. It was an easy transition to cardiology because I’m fascinated by the physiology and mechanics the heart.
I have a special interest in cardiac imaging, more specifically echocardiography. It allows me to actively diagnose and manage patients with valvular disease and various cardiomyopathies. In addition to echocardiography, nuclear medicine and vascular imaging all tell a story that helps me determine the next step in the patient’s care. I always work hand-in-hand with other physicians to provide the best care I can and I enjoy working in a multidisciplinary way to achieve that objective.
More importantly, I enjoy the human connection in being able to determine what the patient needs not just medically but emotionally too. I believe my patients would say I listen and take time to explain their diagnosis and treatment options. They find me personable and I approach things with a positive outlook. As a Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine, it was instilled in me to treat the whole patient and not just the disease. The disease process is just a small portion of the patient’s overall well-being, which is the philosophy I stand by.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my young daughter and husband, playing tennis, and traveling to Canada to visit family.
