If I can give a zero or negative star to Shamburg Heating then I would.

My gas fireplace was shutting down every 10-15 minutes so I called them and had them (Charlie) came over to my house to diagnose and see what's causing the shut down. After 15 minutes of diagnostic Charlie told me he could NOT pinpoint what's the cause of the problem but said he THINK it's the SIT valve. I asked him how much and was told $840 to have it replace, I then ask him does it guarantee to fix the problem and what's the warranty. He said there is a 30 days warranty and if that doesn't fix the problem then I am out $840.

I called Fireside and Lisacs Fireplaces & Stoves and explain my problem and was told over the phone that there are only three main components to the fireplace unit and they are the thermopile, thermocoupler or the SIT valve. The cost of the part are $30, $15 and $129 respectively. They even told me that I can replace the thermo parts myself and get it from Lowes but the SIT valve should be done by them and the cost to replace the SIT valve is $249 (parts and labor) and not $840 as quoted by Shamburg.

Clearly Shamburg is in the heating (con) business and not fireplace repair business. I paid $118 for their 30 minutes visit which was worthless. I would recommend staying away from this business as they are unethical and not knowledgeable.

In response to Kim. A's review: We were called out to one of his rental homes. He had taped up the wiring with duct tape and had taken the spill switch out of the system (he emailed us photos prior to the visit). The spill switch is one of the mechanisms that shuts a fireplace off if there is a safety issue. He had tried to bypass the safety features of the fireplace in the home that he was renting out in order to save repair costs. The gas valve needed to be replaced and the unit was not safe to operate. We are familiar with both Lisac's and Fireside. We have had working relationships with them for many years. The prices that "Kim A. (not his real name by the way) states that they quoted him are simply not accurate - we confirmed this with the stated companies. Those prices may be found if you purchase the parts online, but to have a reputable fireplace company provide the parts, install the parts and back them up with a warranty is no where near what he states. We charged him our service call and diagnostics fee which totals $118. He was upset that we could not fix the unit for that amount. We have been doing fireplaces for 31 years.
