MANORCARE on Joppa Road is the nightmare experience too many elderly care facilities are notoriously known for. The Internet photos look so nice and promising. Better to close your eyes and steer clear of this address if you really care for a loved one.

For some unknown reason GBMC chose to take my husband there for physical therapy. I had nothing to do with the selection.

You enter through two double doors that open simultaneously. Sometimes you can just exit or enter when somebody else has preceded you. This situation is very dangerous considering so many of the patients have cognitive challenges and can possibly do out without being seen. Most places would make sure that no patient can leave this way. They are in full command of the care of those patients who should not be able to access the doors. Sixty percent of Alzheimer's patients are roamers. The doors should only allow most people with a reason to be there to enter but never get access to the patient living areas.

I was shocked that they had dressed my husband in someone else's clothing even though he had adequate clothing for physical therapy. They did this the next day. Most of his clothes were gone. I can only believe that somebody there had go have stolen his New Balance shoes that cost more than $150.00. his cargo pants, his pajamas, his robe, his underwear. They could not have cared less.

The first floor is totally different from the horrible second floor. TV's, nicely carpeted tv room with large comfortable easy chairs, tables , computer, tv., good lighting.

The second floor no tv room. Just a cold, both ugly and with cold air blowing from the broken heater that probably has never been repaired and they are indifferent to the patients' discomfort. Terrible food that seems to have been constructed months ago and placed in the freezer only to be taken out on the serving day and to be allowed to defrost on the plates of the patients.

First floor gets the rooms with a wall tv for each patient. 2nd floor you are supposed to supply your own tv. I only learned that when I got there. My husband's bed did not have a pillow and never got one. The other patient's clothing and possessions took all the space and left almost nothing for my husband.

The bathroom shared between two rooms had a toilet that was overflowing. I took my husband to another bathroom. It was really a storage room and there was no access to the sink so he could wash his hands.

I was so irritated and shocked at the lack of respect for t he patients this facility exhibits that I brought my husband right home last night. I intend t o express my complaints to everybody. The entire time I was thinking that nobody should get old. I would commit suicide if I had to stay there.
