The department operates a redevelopment agency that reconstructs commercial, industrial and residential developments. The Community Development Department maintains an environmental division that helps to preserve the appearance, character and quality of neighborhoods. It is also enforces zoning, land use, unpermitted building and nuisance codes. The department works with the Planning Commission and prepares plans and zoning studies.
