I would not recommend doing business with this company. I feel the level of service, customer care, and business practices have steadily decreased. Over the past several years I’ve watched the company change: there is no longer an intake when dropping off my taxes to discuss any changes, H&R Block now prepares my taxes, there is no longer a review of the final outcome, and if I need to speak with Mr. Simmons I have to pay a fee of $150/hr. In my opinion, the service has become less personal.



Issue With Undisclosed Fee Increase This Year:

The Ray Simmons Corporation used to always notify me in advance of any changes in fees or policies, until this year. I had been paying the same amount for my tax preparation for several years, and would not have expected any fee increase without their typical advance notification. However, when I came in to pick up my tax return it was then, and only then, that I became aware of a higher fee. I was never advised in advance that there was even the possibility that my fees may increase, nor given any estimate of what that increase may look like. I immediately requested to speak with Mr. Simmons regarding this matter, and he advised me that this year they were reviewing some of their client’s fees, and making adjustments due to the increased costs of doing business.



I would not have had any issue with paying the higher fee if it had it been disclosed to me in advance: either before my taxes were started or at the time when I dropped off my paperwork. I fully recognize the increases in the costs of doing business, as it is ever present all around me: increases in the price of gas, groceries, etc. It's not raising my fees that I have an issue with; it is how this rate increase was conducted. It is a matter of principal; in my opinion this was simply not done in a professional manner.



Issue With Quality of Service:

I also had a lot of concerns with the number of clients who found errors in their tax returns, who came in during the short period of time I was waiting to speak with Mr. Simmons. Not only am I paying more for my tax preparation, receiving less service, but now I question the accuracy and quality of the work.
