I live at the coast and have lunch frequently at La Tea Da. The website does indicate you need reservations in the "Visit" section of the website as well as the hours of operation. Unlike many eating establishments, they aren't open all the time, since much of the businesses here is seasonal. However the website is updated with the current information. While this isn't High Tea at the Empress Hotel, it's a wonderful close second.

We were very disappointed with our experience at La Tea Da. My mother and I went their after seeing their website during our vacation on the coast of Oregon. Upon entering at shortly before 3pm, there were two families finishing up their meal and one waitress clearing a table. We were ignored by the waitress for 10 minutes while we stood watching her from the doorway. Finally, the owner came from the back and abrubtly asked us, "Is there anything you need?". We asked for a table for two and she said, "I'll see what we can do" and disappeared into the back again. The waitress then told us that they are reservation only and close in an hour. She said that they could serve us a pot of tea and a scone but couldn't make anything else on the menu.

Nowhere on their website or shop does it say that they are reservation only, it doesn't even say that reservations are recommended!

We were rushed through our tea in thirty minutes without a single smile. The owner rang up our check at the front but only after we stood in front of her while she finished reading the paragraph in her book. The scones were way too sweet and flat, but the tea was decent. The Devonshire cream wasn't really Devonshire cream and tasted more like whipped cream. And they were very skimpy with the lemon curd.

Overall, it was a sad experience. We felt completely like unwelcome guests and as though we were a bother to the owner and waitress. It was obvious they didn't want us there. Not being greeted upon entering a restaurant or shop says to me that they don't want your business. They obviously don't need more customers since they can't take care of two people walking in an hour before they close. It was so rude.
