WATCH OUT!!! I needed a "run" capacitor for my home HVAC unit. Stopped and purchased a new unit from these people. They gave me a fair amount of BS... joking "did you take a picture?"... "are you sure you know what you are doing?". No big deal... but it got me thinking about the price. I was charged $40 for a part I could have gotten for a little under $5. Look... I'm all for making a profit but that's a bit excessive. Granted I didn't "appear" a pro in my shorts and Hawaiian shirt but hey... I'm retired. I'm retired after 35 years as an engineer working American flag ships in the international trades. I've worked the small stuff and refrigerant and HVAC systems larger than a good sized house. Just BEWARE. Or better yet... take your business elsewhere.

First, no complaints with the quality of service. Also, this is a Better Business Bureau listed company - that is good.



But, I feel like I was a little mislead when I asked about hourly wage and the pricing structure on the phone. I was told there was a $70 trip charge which is waived if they do work. And then the hourly rate is charged.



It turns out they follow some "blue book" like auto mechanics do, and the lowest rate for "basic labor" is $110. Everyone has to earn a living, but I would have appreciated if the firm had simply told me that up front. I only learned those details when I asked the guy doing the service why the rate was so high.



I am not going to complain to the BBB because I think I was a sucker and "buyer beware" and all that stuff. And I should have pushed the guy on the phone harder and tried harder to understand the rate structure before agreeing for them to come out. But it is a shame that they made me feel that way - they could have just been clearer about their pricing up front; you know something like, "What's your hourly rate?" "$70 trip charge, which is waived and then an hourly rate based on (?whatever it is based on?), where the minimum charge for something minor is $110, and a typical charge is $YYY"
