Scottsdale finally meets Surprise

What a nice surprise did we have when we decided to go to Vogue. The place is a small place, which is to understand the Bistro is fairly new. We received fast service, our drinks were great. Try their martini selection...wow.
The entrees were delicious, and hard to pick, since the menu has so much variety. The owner and manager ( which is a good sign ), came over and ask if everything was okay, and by the way asked if we would like to join the online membership in which they over lotscof tasting activities. He also asked if we would like to try some paella and oh was a treat to our taste buds....absolutely delicious. The desserts to die for...the best of the best and right here in Surprise!!!! This ain't no fast food joint, this is meant for those who enjoy life and if the entree takes a little longer, so what....life is to short and their are a lot more things to worry about. Vogue is a place to relax and enjoy fine dinning. This place is definitely a 5 star Bistro in Surprise. Antonio Guzman former Army Servicemember and retired federal employee.

Bill Retired Restaurant Owner

I've read the first two reviews maybe because I was in the business I have some empathy for what it takes to start a new restaurant, train staff, get all the bugs out when you first open up so I waited before I tried the Bistro. Well I went there last night and boy I was not disappointed it was great! No longer do we have to go to Scottsdale for fine dining no; Scottsdale should be coming to Surprise, Vogue Bistro is a dining pleasure to be enjoyed by all. Some folks say its a little expense well I thought the quality and portions were well worth the price! By the way no salt & pepper on the table and for the first time in my life I did not have to ask for them, my food was seasoned perfectly! The two entrees my wife and I had were the fresh Halibut, and the Hanger Steak rare, with mushrooms, they were both outstanding. Can't wait to go back! The Chef/Owner always wants every thing to be perfect we all know sometimes that does not always happen when it doesn't let them know, that is the only way they can change things for the better. If you enjoyed the food let them know that as well.

Rude Manage, Bad Service

We arrived at 11:38. After maybe 5 minutes we placed our order. We had a free appetizer coupon, which said if you ordered an entree, upon that the server talked to her manager and he said no had to be from the evening menu. The coupon didn't say that. One of the ladies ordered the from that menu so we received an appetizer. Then we sat and watched as people that came in after us recevied their food and we were still waiting. We asked the server what was going on. She came back and said that it took a while for the meatloaf to cook. This was at 12:25. We said okay, but sure seems to be taking a while, which I guess she told the manager because he came over, very very snoty, and said, "well your order was put in at 11:58 ( he was punching on what looked like a cell phone) and you have to realize that when you order a well done hamburger it takes a while to cook it. Afterall, this is NOT fast food", looking his nose down at me the whole time he was talking. He was almost shouting at us, and the whole restaurant was looking at us and got very very quiet. Very embarassing to say the least.

Do not go here to eat. There are far better places to go. The food is NOT that good and especially when treatment is so bad. Hard to get our refills on our drinks, service is very bad, plus the manger needs relations training. WE won't be back, and I won't reommend this place to anyone.

Priced and Poor Service

Last evening myself and two friends tried the Vogue Bistro. We were seated in a less than desireable table right inside the front door with the evening sun blinding us until sundown and additional diners looking on as they came into the restaurant.

The menu looked electic and intriguing. After 10 minutes our waitress finally approached us for our drink order - 2 glasses of wine and an iced tea. At that time we also ordered water.

Ten minutes later the drinks arrived but no water, no sweetner for the tea. The tea was in a very small glass for $3. We finally got the hostess to bring us iced water and sweetner.

Two of us ordered a specialty salad $8 and I added salmon to my salad for another $4. The food came in about 25 minutes which was fine. The steak w/fries $15 was good. The two salads, however were very small portions - about the same size a comparably-priced restaurant would include as a side salad. The salmon I order came in four small clumps and not enough to permeate the whole salad which was already small. No bread was served with the salads.

Not once did our waitress or a manger come and ask how everything was, or if we needed anything. Another server actually brought the food, with the steak arrivimg 10 minutes before the salads!

The waitress spent a good 20 minutes trying to input orders into the computer rather than waiting her tables. I don't think she could figure that out either.

Another of her tables next to us was equally disappointed. She couldn't get a simple bread order straight. Their entrees came before they had finished their salads and then the soup came!!!

We finally got our waitress' attention and I asked for an iced tea refill, a to-go box for the steak and our checks. She never asked if we wanted dessert. When she brought the checks ... NO TEA, no to-go box. I think for small glass of tea for $3 it deserves at least one refill. Again the hostess had to get the to-go box.

When the waitress brought back our credit cards she apologized and asked if we'd like a complimentary glass of champagne. A free dessert, coffee or glass of wine would have be far more appropriate at that point. None of us wanted the champagne.

For the first and only time in my life I did not leave a tip as did another in my party and the third only a token.

On departing the hostess apologized and said next time to ask for her and she'd provide a free appetizer. THERE WILL BE NO NEXT TIME.

Although the owners may be gifted chefs they need to realize that it's not all about food. If the service is bad that's how their restaurant will be judged. This service was atrocious. I'd suggest save your money and go elsewhere.
