Me and my family have been going to this salon for the past 6 years, ever since it first opened and I have to say this place has the most comforting, modern, professional and the most friendly atmosphere I have ever been too. Workers are friendly, great and prices are reasonable. I recommend everybody to go to Elegant Cuts. #1 spot on town.

In the movie Steel Magnolias, Dolly Parton's character owned a beauty shop where five close friends congregate and talk about their lives, loves and next-door neighbors. Well, this shop kind of reminds me of that movie scene, only it's not so "southern bell-ish", ornately cluttered, or almost ready to collapse. Located in a mini-mall on one of the busiest intersections in Foothill Blvd., Tujunga, this parlor is always clean, contemporary, dotted with a couple of plants around the room.



But once you're in, you have a sense that it's a hub, a watering hole, where people drop in to hang out and socialize, in addition to getting their hair cut, color or style. Although busy, the room is light, open and airy. You won't feel claustrophobic at all.



The owner - "T" I'll call her in case she doesn't want her name mentioned in public - is an attractive woman with a wonderful personality. T is hospitable without being overwhelming. My family and I have been going to her since we started living in Tujunga over five years ago. T always remembers my name even though I don't always come by to have my hair done. I'm one of those who would wait until the last minute when my roots are showing and gray hair over exposed. What I like about T is that she neither admonishes nor judges after a long absence in her parlor. She doesn't say you look horrible or in need of a major touch up. She does just her job and does it well. And her rates are very reasonable.



One time, when I had to wait for the dye to kick in, several ladies entered the parlor, and T had Armenian coffee, nazook (Armenian pastry) and other tea cakes ready to share with them. Then they started talking and chatting away in a language foreign to me but wonderful to hear. It was quite amusing to observe, because the simple coffee break offered respite and solace in the midst of the hustle and bustle of their lives.



T graciously offered a cup of coffee (delicious!) and nazook, to which I gratefully accepted. What a wonderful gesture.



That's why I always return to Elegant Cuts - the ladies there not only provide excellent service, but a nice, friendly atmosphere.



Of course, the ultimate test after my haircut and color was when someone said, "I looked ten years younger." For that I'll return to Elegant Cuts again and again.
