The Community Development Department is responsible for establishing policies and goals for the growth of the community. Its staff directs and coordinates the activities of the building and planning divisions. The building division is responsible for the enforcement of codes, laws, ordinances and regulations related to building construction and remodeling within the city of Stockton, Calif. Its planning division is responsible for the implementation of the general plan through the administration of the zoning code, Subdivision Map Act, municipal ordinances, California Environmental Quality Act and city's annexation program. In addition, the planning division supports the planning commission and city council on planning matters.
