I live close, so this seemed like the obvious choice for veterinary care, but I am beyond disappointed. It is unfortunate that my experience was SO bad I will be finding a new place, even it means more travel. I brought in my cat because I felt weird lumps in a few places on her body and couldn't see them when I inspected. The doctor told me they were just scabs and not to worry. He asked if my cat had fleas and I said that she hadn't displayed any indication of having fleas. I asked if he could just check since we were already there and he said to just look out for them. (An obvious ploy to get me to come back on a separate occasion. I was already there! He couldn't have looked?) We determined that the scabs came from cuts, what looked like maybe a sharp edge to a door or something that ripped the skin (not flea biting or scratching). Then he proceeds to pull off the scabs on my cat, one of which starts bleeding quite a bit. He then charged me for the "clean up" of the wound and for the anti-bacterial cream that I now needed because of HIS actions. And ever since we left the vets....my cat seems to be scratching a lot. A LOT. I definitely would have noticed if she had been doing it this much before the appointment. It's like she got fleas while we were there. These are only my suspicions based on the attitude and behavior of the doctor...but the whole thing is just sketchy. He was sketchy. The bill was sketchy. And I won't be putting my kitten in the hands of that guy again. I think his name was Doctor Rose.

Amazing Staff!!!

I was a new client who came in unannounced with my pit bull mix who needed her glands expressed. Not only did they take me right away, they only charged me for the service and not an exam fee. The techs were amazing and kind and my dog, who usually hates the process was calmed and very well cared for. I'm an animal welfare professional with a decade working with vets and shelters and their service was superior to any I've previously received. The office is also extremely clean and airy. Would highly recommend to discerning pet owners!!

I've been going to that clinic...

I've been going to that clinic for awhile, and whatever doctor is there they been doing a good job taking care of my dog. But latley their boarding care hasn't been that great. Just awhile back my dog came home with a bare spot about an inch or so round on her leg. I ask them and they said they didn't have any idea how it happened. Then after that she got her paw caught in the play room some how and ripped her nail and it started to bleed. The doctor put a bandage on it which couldn't have cost more than $2.00 and charged me $40.00. Then the same day the kennel guy bathed her and I guess he was letting her run around to dry off a little and guess he wasn't paying any attention to her and she injested a tennis ball. My wife wasn't to happy with this whole situation. I may keep them as my vet but may look for another boarding place.

They do it the way it is supposed to be done!

I tried St Pete Beach Veterinary Clinic, because Dr. Sheppard is located there now, and after a couple of visits I have definitely found my new clinic.

I followed Dr. Sheppard there because of her sensible approach to pet care and appearantly she has wisely chosen to link herself with like-minded associates. My dog and I had a fantastic experience there.

The facility and staff have a nice warm and personal appeal to them. You don't get the cold clinical feel that you have grown accustomed to, nor are you bombarded with the adertisements that are plastered on the walls of most clinics. The ads mentioned often make you wonder if the clinic is more motivated to run a business than it is motivated to give care -not that you can't be interested in both, just that your primary motivation should be for pet care and that should in-turn create a succefull business-. The ads also make you question a product companies influence in the decision making of a facility and make you wonder if they are acting in the best interest of you and your pet. One other nice little feature about the facility is that it even has a nice little boutique attached to it that me and my Rottwieler enjoyed roaming around in.

The other big upside to the clinic is cost for services and cost control. During my experience their, I have found that their rates are VERY reasonable and FAR more reasonable than any clinic or hospital I have been to in the last 10yrs. Not only have I found their rates to be reasonable but they a very proactive in managing the cost by effectively assesing which procedures are necessary and which procedures, while available, are not necessary.

So far, I can only give them the highest recommendation. Give them a try!
