Established in 1983, St. Clair Correctional Facility has a capacity to accommodate up to 1,300 inmates. Located in Springville, Ala., the facility is spread accross an area of more than 600 acres and maintains over 365 life inmates without parole. It is operated by the Alabama Department of Corrections, which is a medium-sized correctional facility that employs nearly 3,400 employees and has approximately 26,000 prisoners. The Alabama Department of Corrections works to confine, manage and provide rehabilitation rograms for convicted individuals. It operates Alabama Correctional Industries, which is a subdivision of the Alabama Department of Corrections and maintains more than 15 manufacturing operations, service enterprises, farms, and fleet maintenance, central warehouse and distribution facilities.
