A lockout is a situation where one needs to gain entry into a locked area, but does not have a key. A locksmith will use specialized tools, training and resources to try to gain entry. These tools are usually effective but not always. While rare, sometimes it is necessary and more cost effective to defeat the lock by going through it, which will usually entail destructive means such as drilling into the lock, and then repairing or replacing it. With the owners permission, locksmiths are well equipped to handle these situations also.
