In the mid 1970s, finding a fireplaces or wood burning stove in central Illinois was impossible. Mark Coats knew there was an opportunity to get people what they wanted ' top-of-the-line, quality fireplaces stoves. He opened the doors to Marx Fireplaces and Lighting in 1976 in Springfield, Illinois. The business originally marketed and distributed wood burning stoves, furnaces and related accessories throughout the Midwest. Trends come and go and styles change, so over the years, Marx adapted to what the customer said they wanted. This meant a larger inventory, larger product line, and wider variety of manufacturers. To accommodate their ever-expanding product line and inventory, in 1989 they moved to a bigger building located at 3445 S. 6th St. in Springfield, Illinois ( the current location ). This move positioned Marx to better serve customers throughout the Midwest by putting nearly the entire line of products on display. It also made Marx Fireplaces and Lighting the largest fireplace and lighting showroom in central Illinois! Today, Marx Fireplaces and Lighting places a high value on customer satisfaction.
