OK Food Bad Ambiance Worse Service

We were among the first people to patronize this restaurant when it opened about seven years ago. At that time they would struggle to serve us as they nervously prepared our meal and we thought how charming and endearing that was for a fledgling business. The service improved relatively speaking, but the hostesses who sit you always were pretty much numb between the ears and completely lacking in basic etiquette, and the service left much to be desired- but that wasn't a deal-breaker, I suppose. Over the years we continued to patronize Pearl Restaurant about 10 times a year, but the ambiance never got much better with cheap and dusty plastic plants here and there. Starting about two years ago, my wife and daughter would get bouts of stomach aches after having eaten Pearl food- despite the food having tasted fairly good- although nothing spectacular. Nonetheless, we always returned in the name of supporting local businesses. We must be gluttons for punishment. The last straw came when they gave us a wrong item in our take-out order . They took 45 minutes to prepare our four-meal take-out, and in my hurry to drive the 15 minutes home I neglected to look in the bag as I left. We saw the mistake as we sat down to eat at home. I called up the restaurant and politely explained the situation to the poor dimwit on the line. (The same person working at this Japanese/Chinese restaurant who earlier in the evening asked me on the phone what Chirashi was when I had ordered it out of her own menu!). She said I could come by and pick up the correct item. I drove the seven or so miles to pick it up, and to my disbelief, they made me pay for this item- for something that was their mistake. I was expecting an apology but instead got a bill! I'll continue to support local businesses, but this one just lost a long-time customer. The worst part?- Never even once have they acknowledged us as the reliable returning customers that we were (Never a "Hello, welcome back!"). My family and I will not be returning. We'll be going to Tony's Sushi- so much better, and to Tony's Asian Fusion. There are many more choices out here, unlike in the past.
