Southfield City Streets and Highways Department, governed by the Department of Public Works, is responsible for maintaining the 245 miles of roadway under the city's jurisdiction. Its services include street and highway repairs, street cleaning, snow removal and ice control, drainage, dust control and road and shoulder grading. The streets and highways department also offers residential street sweeping, refuse collection and disposal and recycling and yard waste composting. It hosts Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off program at the Recycling Authority on 8 Mile @ Evergreen in the spring and fall seasons. The program is limited to residential properties and invites residents to bring hazardous waste to the collection area at no charge.
