I had never had sushi before Lilly the waitress took the time to help me figure what would be best for me to try. The food was good. The service was better. Just keep in mind quality food take time.

Seen the review from saladine71 had to comment. First off if your wife cant read and just orders and hopes for the best, well i guess you deserve what you get. Second your telling me you went to a sushi restaurant and ordered a steak?!?!? Lol enough said! I bet you go to hacienda and order a burger! Now my review: If you are looking for not only amazing quality sushi but also an amazing verity of sushi. Well this is the place. The owner/chef and his wife make you feel really appreciated, they make you feel like a friend. Never been treated so nicely dinning at a restaurant. I love sushi, eat it on a regular basis, and have tried every place in this area more than once even though I had a bad experience. I know as a chef sometimes you don't get the best experience so If a place has a good following I will give them another chance. With that all said this matubas has the best sushi in the area. After being to every place numerous time I crave matubas sushi and find it hard to go get sushi anywhere els. It's not a fancy ritzy place it's average inside but I'm not there for the atmosphere I'm there for their amazing sushi. That's why 9/10 times I go to matubas. Have turned soo many people onto them and they thank me. I hope this was helpful : )

The atmosphere may not be all that, but the food is so satisfying. I love coming here to try their sushi rolls - there is so many to choose from. Also, they are always warm and welcoming.

our server had no idea what was good on the menu my wife ordered her entree and said she hoped it wasn't soup...it was and it reeked.
I orded yaki steak medium it was rare I couldn't eat it.
had to pay for every thing an then my card was overcharged.

be careful what you order.

I'd never tried sushi before, and was taken to Matuba's by a friend. I've now converted family and friends! The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is nice but casual, and the service is incredibly friendly. My son (3) has been eating there his whole life (california rolls and miso soup are his favorites), and considers it his favorite restaurant. Certainly one of our very favorite restaurants in the area.

Hands down...........best sushi in South Bend area. Very friendly staff!!
