Was so excited to find this place, walked in and was greeted with looks up and down and very rude service, the food wasn't worth what it cost and I'll never go back.

On January 24,2014 a friend and I decided to eat at M & V Famous Soul Food. Neither of us had ever tried it before and decided to go eat dinner there after getting off work. We arrived about 6:40 PM and figured out you had to go place your order at the counter. No one greeted us. The staff was friendly enough while we placed the order, the experience went downhill quickly from there. We were asked if we were dining in or carry out and we said dining in. The food was ready around 7:00 and we were called to the counter for carry out. I told the counter help that we were dining in and was told by a woman at the counter in a very rude manner that dining in stopped at 6:00. It seems to me that should have been mentioned when we ordered, especially since it was past 6:00 when we ordered and we shouldn't have been asked if we were dining in. We left with the food and I stopped to drop my friend off at his house. We removed the food from the bag to divide our order and apparently the catfish I ordered had been dumped from the fryer directly into a Styrofoam container. The bottom of the container had melted along with the top of the order in the bag under it. I ordered the spicy catfish, macaroni and cheese, turnip greens and a corn muffin. The spice in the catfish batter seemed to consist only of a large dose of cayenne pepper, the batter was brown and tasted of burnt flour as if the fryer oil needed to be changed. The fish itself had a watery, under-cooked, previously frozen taste. The macaroni and cheese tasted very much like packaged, at least it tasted like the version with the pouch of cheese sauce and not the powdered cheese version, but that is not what I was expecting. The corn muffin was a round disc of fried cornbread heavily laden with grease. The turnip greens were the high point of my meal, they were good, not great but good. The two meals cost $28 and change for what was basically two meats with two. I guess this is why they didn't tell us we would be carry out. If we had known, we would have left and had a nice sit down dinner complete with table service for about the same price. In fact, I could have went to Captain D's and had a much better dining experience. I had heard this was the best soul food in the area, so after eating I decided to Google soul food restaurants in the area and surprise, surprise, they are the only soul food restaurant I could locate in the area. guess this is why all the reviews saying it is the best soul food. It is very easy to win if you are the only horse in a one horse race. I am only giving it one star because the sites seems to require at least one to post and if there is an option for zero stars, I can't find it. I will not be going back to M & V Famous Soul Food!

Horrible experience today!! I give them 4 stars for the food and 1 star for customer service. The order I placed this afternoon was wrong and after calling and getting a sarcastic apology and heading all the way back to the restaurant to return my order I didn't receive a formal apology like I would at a professionally ran establishment. I received a rude nonchalant attitude as the woman took her sweet time giving me my money back singing as if she could careless. How unprofessional. Never again.

Love To Eat

I love this place it has such a Christian atmosphere and the owners are sooooo Godly and the food is to live for I have never been in such a clean soul food place as this one is a lot of places don't have that down home feel but this one does we've even heard people say they are a lot like the Neely's that come on T.V. but better you've just got to come and see for yourself these people are the real deal.
