At Davis Clock & Watch Repair, we do more than just fix time pieces, at our shop at 1613 W. 12th St. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 57104. We stand behind our work and our products. Do we ever make a mistake?, of course we do, but we do not pass the buck, we solve problems. Do you have a problem that needs to be solved? I discovered that the Swiss are discontinuing the manufacture of unbreakable mainsprings for antique wrist and pocket watches. At this time the cost of mainsprings have more than quadrupled. The old new stock mainsprings are very numerous and are now being sold at the old prices. Unfortunately the old new stock mainsprings are made of steel and do not possess the power to run a movement for more than a few hours. The unbreakable alloy mainsprings will run a movement for about 30 hours. If you have a mechanical wrist or pocket watch that needs attention, it would be a good idea to get it done while the alloy mainsprings are still available. I do have a small supply of mainsprings. I have been using a flat rate that includes all parts I have in stock. I will continue to do this. If I must order a mainspring for your movement, I will have to use the price for the mainspring set by my suppliers and add that to my flat rate. 2010 at the annual Clock convention I was told that there may be a new source for the unbreakable mainsprings. The next few years will tell that story. So far no new news on this subject. (2015) There have been some mainspring stock from China, but quality has been iffy. We are honest, trustworthy, and ready to earn your business!
