I am very disappointed so far in the Simms school. My child has been harassed by a teacher, sometimes in front of other students, about the lack of ability to pay lab fees. Another student was also harassed and picked on about lack of payment. Isn't this discrimination against low income families?! Don't we have anti-bullying policies in place. Oh wait, I guess that only applies to students There is also a serious lack of electives at Simms. No alternatives were offered when my child was assigned automatically to a specific one. Beware to sensitive audiences, those with certain beliefs, etc; An inappropriate video (animals were harmed) was shown that highly upset my child and a few other students as well. Upon them requesting that the video be stopped, and one of the students resorting to tears, running out of the classroom, they still choose to continue playing the violent video. The teacher even resorted to laughing with a coworker about the incident calling the students that left the room "whiners" according to witnesses that remained in the classroom. Upon calling the superintendent about the matter, I was cut off by him and told that he would talk to them about it and "I takes care of things" gruffly. He showed no signs of caring, empathy or concern about the situation. My thoughts & concerns were not addressed or taken into account. I was basically brushed aside. If I don't see some MAJOR positive changes taking place soon, I will be withdrawing my student. I will also file a formal complaint with the board and district.
