I ate the grilled shrimp at "The Barn". I had a reaction to the MSG on either the shrimp or the "Home cut fries" I was served. I only ate a few, but over an hours time while visiting with family members. I felt terrible and sent the shrimp back to the kitchen. The wait person, assured me there was no MSG on the shrimp, but the fries have seasoning on them that contians MSG. I only ate a few of the fries and could not eat anything else because of how bad I felt. I took the replacement shrimp, which I was assured had no MSG on them, home to enjoy the next day. I had a much worse reaction to the supposedly, "fresh cooked shrimp without any seasoning" which lasted for several hours. I don't know if the shrimp were cooked fresh and seasoned again anyway, or if they were the same shrimp I sent back to be replaced. They looked axactly the same as the shrimp I sent back, with seasonings on them. Whatever happened, I am very unhappy and hope I don't have a 2nd heart attack from the severe symptoms from the MSG I was served. There is no excuse for doing this to a customer. If you don't have a reaction to MSG, them you cannot appreciate how bad it feels. This is the worst one I have ever had and it is extremely bad. I am shakey and my heart is pounding like someone put a rabbit inside my chest, plus I have aheadache that is a real boomer. My advice to anyone who might eat at "The Barn" in Sherrill, Iowa. Be sure to ask they do not season your food, or perhaps find a different place to eat. A place that takes you seriously when you tell them you have a MSG allergy. Allergic reactions can kill the person haiving it. I would have given only 1 star, but most of the others at my table were satisfied with their food. We did have to get our own silverware and service was quite slow. One of us ordered a medium-rare rib-eye steak that came out barely pink in the middle, but the meat was so thin, it was hard to not over cook it.
