Don't waste your time or money...

March 19, 2013: Don't waste your time or money on this guy. I hired him for a job one year ago and it still isn't done. He said it would take 6 weeks. I should have checked for online reviews before hiring Freestyle canvas. The net is full of warnings to stay away from this guy.Mike Straub is full of excuses if you see this guy, run away fast in the other direction, and guard your check book.

UPDATE: July 30, 2013. Mike finished my canvas work today.

After 2011 Seattle Boat Show, my friend introduced Michael Straub to me, so I called him for a Biminis top and bridge enclosure quote. He came the next day and gave me a quote which it was one half of the cost the others would charge me. His reasons were he was an one man show, so the overhead cost was low, and he would pass on the savings to his customers. We signed the contract on 01/26/2011. He stated he would complete the job on 02/14/2011 on the contract. After he took the down payments, he never finished the job and kept telling me that week's Friday he would finish it if you called him during the week days. In June, 2011, I told him that he was fired. He went to my boat and took few pieces of the enclosures off. When I found out and asked him to return the pieces, he said he would use them for another boat's project. I sued him in the small claim court and won the judgment, but he never paid it. Then the collection agency called him. He simply told them. He won't pay a penny. Good luck for all his victims' to get their money back.

I REALLY wish we would've researched these reviews prior to giving Mike $3,500 to replace our canvas. Mike is full of excuses and going on 9 months later, nothing has been done beside he took the top off. He has promised us to have this replaced no later than May 1st, 2011 for the halibut fishing season. DO NOT hire Freestyle Canvas or Mike Straub to do ANY work for you ever! Now, we're going to have to go to small claims and cross our fingers for the money back! Sad!

Sorry. He had the audacity to call yesterday after we hadn't heard from him in how long?! I thought, wow! he has our money. Ha! he said the economy has been tough - no kidding, it is for us too. He tried to put it back on me that he wished I would have taken partial payment when he had it. I told him I wished he would have paid us all the money. I asked when we'd have the money and he said hopefully if he has some jobs by the end of summer, about 8 weeks. I told him it was a slap in the face to call us up and still not have the money. I reminded him that we already have a small claims judgement against him and he had 30 days to pay. That's been two years so why should we give him 8 more weeks!? I told him I hoped to have the money in 8 weeks or less but then that's it - we are filing a lien. I might have to call him back and remind him that he now owes interest also. Please don't take his excuses. Give him a date and then go to small claims. He won't show up. Then file a lien. I told him to take a loan, use his credit card, whatever it takes but get us the money. He said he has no credit. I asked why he's even in business then. Not sure why he even called us. He must be trying to clear judgements against him or maybe getting a divorce. Something prompted it and it wasn't his good conscience. I'm sorry he's continuing to do this to others.

Well, should have done my homework and read some of these reviews.

Mike was eager to get the job going on our vintage trailer upholstery job but we still are not finish 9 months later and he has moved or closed out of the Ballard location! He has one of my front seat cushion sets (he was going to fix) and no call back or update for 3 months after repeated calls!

The old adage applies applies here for sure, the sanctification of a low price is soon lost after a poor job! Please read these reviews before hiring Freestyle Canvas!
