I was moving to the Portland area and had an apartment that came available on the first of the month, 10 days away. I wanted a unit for a short time to move some stuff up from another state and have it ready. This place listed "short term rentals" as one of their options, so I gave them a try.



The girl in the office said, in fact, they only did full month rentals, which we agreed to after talking it over, just to have done with it. Then the girl added that we would also have to pay for the rest of the current month to get them onto a first of the month schedule. With admin fee, the total would be $93 for a 6' unit for 10 days!



We were about to walk out when the girl suddenly said that if we vacated by the 5th of the month, they would refund the full second month. We got her to repeat this multiple times in multiple ways and finally agreed when she insisted it was true.



Anyway, the unit was clean and tidy, which is why I'm giving this review 2 stars instead of one. The bad news started when we vacated. We left on the very 1st of the month to be sure of the refund. The next day we were preparing to drive over to get it when the phone rang. An incredibly surly woman asked us if we had vacated the unit. Yes, we said, and we are owed a refund. She seemed to take great joy in telling us that they never gave refunds. We explained about the girl and she checked our record. Apparently there was some note on it, because she grudgingly changed her tune and said she would mail us a check.



A few days later the letter arrived. No check, just a nasty note directing us to some paragraph or other of their rental agreement which we had never even received, supposedly making clear why no refund was due. At this point, my wife, who is slow to anger, called the office and talked to the original girl. She said she was sorry, that she had thought that was the policy, but there was nothing she could do. My wife pointed out that they had an obligation to honor the agreement as it had been clearly stated to us by an employee. She added that it would hardly break their company and that we would give them a very harsh review online otherwise.



I think the last thing got to them. A little later the girl called back and said the check would be mailed, for $25. They were only going to refund the partial month! At this point, we were tired of arguing and basically just said whatever.



Bottom line: Avoid these people like the plague. They will nickel and dime you and, from others I have talked to, if there is any disagreement over policy, they will hold your stuff hostage until you pay what they think you owe! Steer clear as their are other honest storage places to go to.
