As a Savannah local I book a 2 week rental vehicle online 5 days in advance. The day of pickup, I arrive on time, he shows me to a sub compact Chevrolet Sonic, I am thinking, ok, didn't I book an intermediate size but he BSes me that I am being "upgraded" to a "compact premium" size vehicle.



It is really in bad and unclean shape inside and some of the belongings of the previous renter are still in the vehicle e.g. someones nasty looking flower bracelet hanging off the rear view mirror. The first day of driving it, the check engine light comes on and stays on, next few days it starts driving erratically on the highway. Final straw, I put my wife's shopping bags in the trunk and we are shocked to find a still WET red brown fecal type stain (dried stains are a normal part of car rentals). Make the fatal mistake of observing an email address on his business card, think to myself I won't be obnoxious and demand his immediate attention, I will email him a list of issues I am having with the vehicle he gave me and ask him to exchange it for a clean and serviced vehicle of the ordered intermediate size. Fatal mistake, the guy doesn't check his email or doesn't respond to emails so 24 hours later I am calling him in the morning him asking him if he got my email, naturally he denied receiving any email until prompted a few times when he admits he did receive an email after all.



So instead of offering me the basic courtesy of another more suitable clean and serviced vehicle, the guy tries to re-assure me that it has been serviced recently and why don't I bring it back to get the trunk properly cleaned shampooed while I wait (like I have nothing better to do). I ask him if it has been serviced recently why does it drive so badly and why is there also no windshield washing fluid left in the reservoir, no response. So I ask him when the next properly cleaned and serviced vehicle will be available to be replace my bad vehicle, he gives me more BS about how he does not know when customers will return their vehicles and when that might be. So I tell him abruptly, why don't you call me later today when you have something in that is more suitable to what I ordered.



So, come 3pm no phone call so I call him back again and ask him when a replacement vehicle, he repeats the same BS that he has had no vehicles returned since this morning when I first called and that he cannot predict a date and time when a suitable replacement will be in for me to pickup. So I tell him that this would insult the intelligence of a five year old and tell him that I am returning the vehicle and that I don't expect to be charged for this experience. I then forward him a screenshot taken from carrentals.com saying exactly when a suitable replacement vehicle would be next available (the next day), again no response. I return the vehicle before the end of the day and spend the five minutes before my wife picks me up scanning the parking lot where he claims to have no suitable vehicles available, spotting at least 10 or more suitable replacements that are unused. I guess it is more important for them to massage their own egos than to provide basic customer service.
