My husband and I “thought.

My husband and I “thought” this was the perfect place for our baby. The daycare seemed safe, reliable, professional, and a great learning experience with a fun backyard. It turns out all our assumptions were false.

Safety was not met when every time I visited the house unexpectedly the place was a mess. Piles of laundry were scattered around the kitchen and toys were left all over the rooms, hallways and in my child’s playpen (which he didn’t even use). And did I mention that her gate doesn’t lock – it’s only there for show and she lives across from projects.

Out of the 4 times I had to stop by, twice she was out of the house running errands. The kids were left with the other 2 assistants while she was out and about. I cannot rely on her if half of the time she is not even around caring for my child.

Lissa worked at a corporate company as an assistant year ago. She knows how to be professional, but don’t let this fool you. When we informed her we were un-enrolling our child, she offered to refund us a portion of our payment but instead she gave us a check that bounced. Lissa told us that she would drop off cash in our mailbox, but that never happened even after several attempts to follow up with her.

During the time that I was at the daycare, there was supposed to be arts and crafts according to Lissa’s schedule. Instead, we were listening to scratched up CD’s. She claimed that her son scratched them up. Also, Lissa said a part-time Gymboree teacher would be present assisting her during that time. This assistant never showed up.

Backyard fun turned into a backyard disaster waiting to happen. Only half the ground is covered in foam mats and the remainder is hard concrete, the play set is old, dirty and in need of repair, a large and a small dog are locked in a cage in the same area barking loudly, the stairway back into the house is a steep climb which, by the way, I witnessed a child almost fall backwards on. As this little girl was walking up these stairs, Lissa’s middle child ran up and shoved her out of his way. Luckily, I was behind the girl to catch her.

Yes, Lissa is a mother of three. But you would think she knows how to handle her own children, however they are out of control. They don’t listen to her. When I stopped by to sign some papers, her oldest child was “dancing” on the table top. I couldn’t sign the paper without looking at her toes in my face. Her middle child was swinging a chain with a metal piece 5 inches away from my baby’s face. Lissa told him to put it away, and he refused. Her youngest child wouldn’t stop rocking my baby when he was sound asleep in his car seat. Again, she asked him to stop and he didn’t listen either. I’ve confronted her about her uncontrollable middle child and how I do not feel safe if my child is around him. Her response is “He’s not here all the time!” Obviously, she is well aware of his behavior and doesn’t deny it.

The bottom line is, don’t let her first impression fool you. She is not what she appears to be. Lissa is operating the daycare out of convenience. If the daycare was her primary concern, she would not be auditioning to be on the Voice Season 2 to start a singing career.

We may never see the money she owes us again. But maybe she might be wise to use our refund money to repair her fake gate.
