Andrea Procko, MS, PhD, CGC, is a board-certified genetic counselor who provides risk assessment and genetic counseling for patients and their families. She helps people investigate their family health history, navigate the genetic testing process, and understand and adapt to the medical or psychological implications of genetic diseases. She primarily serves as a prenatal genetic counselor working with individuals and their partners before and/or during pregnancy. She helps parents understand how genes, family history, birth defects, or other medical conditions can affect their or their babys health. She is part of the https://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/obgyn/maternity/prenatal/perinatal/Pages/fetal.aspx team at UC San Diego Health, which offers ultrasound, screening, and prenatal diagnostic testing for both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. Andrea is also an adjunct professor for the Augustana-Sanford Genetic Counseling Graduate Program at Augustana Universitys San Diego location, where she instructs graduate students in the areas of prenatal genetics and case management, teaches courses on community resources and involvement, supervises interns during clinical rotations, and mentors graduate students who are working on thesis projects. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Andrea was a genetic counselor at Human Longevity, Inc. as well as an adjunct professor at University of San Diego. Andrea earned her doctoral degree in molecular genetics at The Rockefeller University and a Master of Science in genetic counseling at UC Irvine School of Medicine. She is a member of and volunteer with the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
