San Diego-based Alateen is a support group for young and teenage people, whose lives have been impacted by alcoholics in their families and neighborhood. It is a part of the Al-anon recovery program for alcoholism. Alateen handles persons from 19 years of age through the 12-step program, which is then followed by the Al-Anon program, to assist the person throughout the rehabilitation phase. The group provides an opportunity to share each otherÕs experiences, efficient methods to cope with addiction issues, encouragement and assistance to understand the ideals of the recovery program so that it can be practically applied by the members. There are about 2,300 Alateen groups operating all over the world.
