Edit: they charged me for 250$ from my deposit. And I don't know why.

They still owe me $500 deposit. I dropped off the rental 4 weeks ago undamaged, no traffic tickets, no reasons why they should be keeping my deposit.

THANK YOU REVIEWERS!!!!!!!!

I've been renting from Fox for a month (because I got a good deal on carrentals.com). It's time to return or renew my car ... I checked carrentals.com again and A+ showed up as the best deal for the next couple months, I almost booked it.

I can not THANK YOU all enough. I have a 5 month old son and we are visiting SD while he sees a medical specialist. I can't imagine getting hit with extra unexpected fees from a crappy car company while on a tight budget... Not to mention to safety of my son!!!!

Bad, Bad Dishonest company! DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS PLACE! They are unethical and very dishonest. First, I rented a car for 1 week. $360 for a week rental and a $300 deposit. I was offered a $60 discount for the weekly rental if I paid cash, which by the way is illegal. I declined on that. I returned the car after 1 week and was told it would take 2-3 weeks to get my $300 deposit back. My primary car broke down and I went back to rent another car a month later. My $300 deposit was never refunded back on my card and they wanted to charge me another $300 for the new rental. They wouldn't roll over my deposit to the new rental car, so I had to wait and talk to a manager, Maria. She said to transfer the deposit to the new rental car. Come to find out that they charged my card another $300 deposit without notifying me! So, now I had a $600 deposit. I rented the car for 9 weeks at $130 per week, then offered to purchase it. I negotiated with Tommy, and the purchase price was $4,000. I was told to bring in the cash, then I would be handed the title. I went to their office with cash, I deducted $600 for the deposit, so the balance was now $3,200. They did not have the title, so I gave them half. I went back a few days later, being assured I would get the title. No title, but I paid the balance anyway under good faith. I have a purchase receipt showing the cost and what I've paid. Then Frank calls me and says I owe another $600 because I didn't have full coverage insurance. It's a little late for that, and if that's the case, they shouldn't have rented me a car the 2nd time. Additionally, Frank told me its $15 per day for Insurance. I did the math and its not even close. Apparently, from reading other reviews, they have a habit of unauthorized charges on your credit card and the district attorney has built a case against them. I am a fair person, but Frank and Tommy are dishonest people!

This car rental committed fraud when they stopped payment on a check given to me. I have a legal licensed tow company. We were called by US Customs to do a Government impound on one of their vehicles which was seized at the Port of entry. We released the vehicle to a company rep who gave us a Business Check to reclaim the vehicle. The rental company the same day stopped payment on the check for no valid reason. This is another example of dirty and underhanded practices by the company. legal action will follow shortly against them.

The guy tacked on all these extra fees. He charged me for the shuttle, he charged me $300 for deposit, didn't hold it he actually charged it. The car was an old Buick, dented and scrapped, cigarette lighter did not work to charge phone, window trim was falling off, it looked like someone jabbed a screw driver in the passenger door lock, steering wheel was all crusty and fell apart in my hands, odometer did not work, breaks squealed, stereo was a cassette player, with a cassette stuck inside, speakers were blown, seats were kind of nasty. I asked for a different car 5 times and he refused to give me one. They make you fill out all this extra info on a piece of paper photocopy your DL and Insurance info and I doubt they dispose of it. After the extra fees and the possibility of never seeing your Deposit again its actually cheaper and safer to rent with a more renowned company. WORST CAR EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!

Please read this: I rented a car from them in San Diego: it took 45 minutes for the shuttle to get to me, and they are only 1 mile from the airport, and all the time the guy was telling me 5 more minutes on the phone. When I returned the car at 6:45 PM, they were closing, and I handed it to a guy on his way to Tijuana. They charged me for another day because they close at 6:00pm?? The car was in terrible shape, with 165K miles on it. Please do not rent from them, they are liars, unprofessional and disrespectful.

I'd like to preface my comment...

I'd like to preface my comments as being a professional traveler who has a VERY reasonable expectation and understands the 'you get what you pay for' factor, but this one exceeds every boundary.

My wife rented a convertible via CarRentals.com from 'A Plus Truck & Car Rentals, Inc'. Because she had an early flight out, and the rental agent did not open until 9:00 am and I was staying in California, I returned the car.

When I returned the car, everything was perfect and cordial until I requested that the agent close out the deposit left by credit card and tear up the open receipt. He replied that this was not their policy, "in case they had to charge any damage after the fact". I asked him to make a thorough inspection of the vehicle and notate any damage. (He had already inspected the vehicle upon arrival). He said he didn't have to do that, and that I'd 'pissed him off'. He physically took the rental agreement from me, and told me to leave the establishment. I told him I wasn't leaving with an open credit car charge ticket, and that I would call the San Diego Police for assistance. He said 'F*ck you, I don't have nothing else to say to you, now get out of my building!'

At this point, I called SDPD, and he called a manager at another location. Before I could speak to SDPD, he handed me the phone of a female manager who told me that the contract was with my wife, not with me, and they had "nothing further to say to me". We ended the conversation, and the agent gave me our copy of the rental agreement back, and said 'F*ck you Fa%%ot, get out!' I returned the salutation and left, assuring him that the band and our attorneys would be eager to handle the matter should ANY charge appear from their business after the fact.

These types of situations reflect poorly both on reservation agent (CarRentals.com) and the companies they choose to associate with. Needless to say, I encourage everyone to vote with their $$$ and choose to do business elsewhere.

A very unhappy customer...

4 hours later... A followup to this story...

I have been contacted by a Representative of Customer Service at CarRentals.com, who expressed her complete "shock" at how we were treated by the employee at A Plus Rentals. They had already spoken with senior management at the vendor and "insisted that they strongly reprimand the employee who spoke to you that way". I'm delighted that a major online company has taken the time to stand up for it's customers. These days, this type of service is scarce, and I will continue to use CarRentals.com for future business!

If I could, I would give this ...

If I could, I would give this shady company zero stars instead of one. Sure their rates were cheap and I suppose you get what you pay for (no power windows or locks, car had a tape deck - who still uses those? - but their service is customer service is terrible at best too. When I arrived at the downtown San Diego location they gave me a vehicle that was extremely dirty on the outside. I was in a hurry so I had no time to wait for them to clean it. As I started the car and pulled off I noticed the gas tank light was on, how convenient! After driving this vehicle sparingly for 3 days I returned it and told myself I'd never rent from there again.

Little did I know the worst was yet to come. The month after the rental charges appeared on my credit card I get a statement with a $500 charge from these crooks. Trying to reach someone by phone is nearly impossible. Leaving a message is pointless since they never returned my first few. When you do finally reach someone they barely speak english and say the boss isn't there and to call back. After more than a week of getting the run around I finally decided to call the North County location. After a few days of more smoke and mirrors I finally spoke to someone that told me the $500 charge was for not producing my insurance information after declining their insurance coverage. Never heard of that excuse before so I asked to speak to the manager, who, of course, wasn't available. Eventually I give these thieves my insurance info (even though the car was returned in the same condition as received) thinking that would put this behind us.

After complying with their demands to provide my insurance info the charge wasn't removed. After further prodding on my part they then decided to say that the $500 charge was for a cracked windshield and weren't going to reverse the charge. I denied cracking the windshield and asked why this wasn't brought up when the car was checked back in. They told me they would look into the matter and call me back, however, I haven;t heard from them since and am now in the middle of a drawn out dispute with my credit card company.

BEWARE, READ ALL THEIR LESS THAN AVERAGE REVIEWS AND AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!

This place is shady. I found this company on carrentals.com and thought it was reputable. The price was cheap so I reserved 2 cars. Once we got to the airport, we had to call for someone to come bring us to the company. This took almost an hour! They only allowed the 2 drivers to go and refused to bring any extra people even though they came with a minivan! We were then told that we had to get insurance and it was $100 per car. (I later rented from enterprise and they charged $10 per day) So we just asked if we could get a bigger car. They gave us the minivan they came to pick us up in...ghetto! The van had dents all over the outside, over 200,000 miles, a broken horn, and a ripped interior. In addition to an unsafe car, they had horrible customer service. They were rude, unhelpful and lied about returning calls.

I advise everyone to avoid this company.

DANGER, DANGER!! DO NOT rent a car from these crooks. They seem like a reputable company but they absolutely are not. They will harvest your social security number if you let them. Add that to the fact that they have a photo copy of your driver's lic. along with your credit card number. There goes your identity.

Their cars seem to have been obtained from junk yards. The first one they tried to give us had an oil leak that was going on the exhaust pipe and clouds of smoke were coming from under the car, a potential fire causing situation. They gave us another car. Got out the driveway and discovered that the AC was broken. That car had over 200,000 mi on it. The 3rd car had a working AC so we took it in spite of the fact that it had a stick shift. Around the block and up the street to the freeway and someone pulled out in front of us. Honked the horn to find out that the horn didn't work. Serious safety defect. Too late to turn around. Got on the freeway and the transmission had a serious growl. At 171,000 miles you might expect that. We weren't going too far so we kept the car. The AC worked fine but, as you might expect, the cruise control was dead. The spring rod that holds the trunk lid up was broken so they threw it in the trunk and you used it to prop the lid open like a stick. This place is a joke and I plan to report them to anyone (like the Highway Patrol) who will listen. Returned the car and the clerk had a don't-tell-me-your-problems attitude and didn't much care what we thought about their cars or their service.

I am was very disappointed and anger by my experience with A+ car rentals. I would tell everyone to steer clear of using them. Their customer service was shockingly rude and unhelpful. There is only one manager, who is rude, and there is no one higher up to talk to. Very surprised at how poorly the business was run. I thought i was getting a good deal, but got cheated out of an extra $200 thanks to their creatively worded "fine print''.

I rented a car from APLUS and I will never rent from them again. Their cars are really old and in bad condition. The car I got did not have working AC. I tried calling MARIA which she never answered or called back. Very bad company. Will never rent from them again. And later they charged my credit for damages I didn't do. Not a positive experience with them.

if you're on this page you just need to read the headlines of the other reviews and you will have all the information you need, However, here's my experience with these crooks:

I reserved the car for 10pm and pick it up after 2pm. They had 2 cars. I got the best one...a subraru wagon with 143,000 miles. No plates. The police officer that pull me over said it hadn't been registered since 2009.

The brakes were bad and almost kill us. It had yellow marks on the window and I believe it had recently been purchased from an auction,

The extremely ignorant and rude clerk wrote on the agreement it was due at 10am. I returned it 3 days laters at 10am and was charged for 4 days after I left..

The clerk refuse to discuss the charges and completely ignored me. A call to the main office proved even more disturbing...

The place I was at was on India street but apparently the company is really in Encinitas.

These folks are straight up gangsters. They rip you off intentionally. Do not give them your credit card.

They should be Avoided at all cost.. I'm considering filing a small claims suit just for the principle of it but if I can alert just one unsuspecting victim I will be satisfied.

ABSOLUTLY AVOID. HORRIBLE CO...

ABSOLUTLY AVOID. HORRIBLE COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cars with a very high mileage

First car I got was 162 000 miles and broke after 30 miles.

No assistance at night ( and I was alone with my 2 kids, very bad evening...).

The manager , the day after, wanted to charge me for the change of the car.( She pretended the car was perfect and I made some maniers...) I told her I will the call the police so she sent me an employee and another car ( 153 000miles).

Cars were not clean, a lot of bumps everywhere on the body.

Tanks were empty. Of course, I fully filled the tank of the first car and havent been reimbursed for that.( ( about $50)

Pick up at the airport is terrible.

Employees take "money under the table" to upgrade your vehicle.

Caution is immediatly charged. By luck, I called my credit card company, and the $300 charge was denied.

I was attracked with the price. Big mistake,It costed me more that a regular company. I will never do it again, I will Always choose a company with a good reputation ( enterprise, hertz, Budget.....) .

It totally ruined my vacations, i was thinking of that all the time....

I just hope those people will be out of business soon,( and certainly they will with all the other reviews I read about them.. The only reviews which are positive are made by themselves... a real shame... .) they don't deserve customers.

DANGER ALERT - WARNING! We ar...

DANGER ALERT - WARNING! We are Australians who booked a car via the Car rentals.com website and thought A Plus must be reputable to be part of their "stablle". Wrong! We rang from the airport for a shuttle to be told the shuttle driver had finished for the day so we had to get a taxi at a cost of $16. Nowhere in our paperwork did it say anything about specific hours for the shuttle. The car they gave us had over 97,000 miles on the clock and looked very knocked around. We weren't too worried about that but when the guy asked us where we were taking the car (Joshua Tree) he told us to take it steady which was a concern. He also required a copy of our creidt card and asked us to produce insurance which we did - we had taken out a special policy which covers car rentals globally. He took a copy of this policy. When we took the car out on the freeway we had to drive well below the speed limit as the car handled poorly. We found the air conditioning did not work which made it very uncomfortable driving. We also received a parking violation for the car not displaying current registration tabs on the number plate - does this mean we have been driving an unregistered car? When we looked at our credit card statement we found we had been charged $146 for insurance and an extra day's rental. We have been disputing this amount with Laura Lopez who has now refunded the day's rental but refuses to acknowledge our private insurance is valid. We would hardly buy rental car insurance for our trip to the USA if it did not cover all contingencies. Finally we have reported A Plus to the BBB in San Diego and disputed the amount with our credit card company plus we have wrtitten to the Department of Motor Vehicles in San Diego re the unsafe condition of the car we rented. Next stop will be the Small Claims Court. We are disappointed that Car Rentals.com include such a shonky company in their search and will not be using them again either.

Want to rent a beat-up vehicle that is dangerous to drive, be held responsible for its damages, and then robbed of your security deposit? Then rent here.

A Plus Rental is by far the worst car rental company I have ever experienced. I called the police about their illegal practices and was told the company is on their radar.

Save your money and time and rent elsewhere.
