Located in Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake Temple serves members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tooele County, Utah, various parts of Salt Lake and Summit counties in Utah and Elko in Nevada. Established in 1893, the temple is situated on a more than 10-acre site and offers regular endowment sessions and special sessions for individuals with hearing disabilities that are presented by American Sign Language ordinance workers. The temple's exterior is made of granite and it has more than 170 rooms, including sealing and ordinance rooms. It occupies more than 253,000 square feet of floor area. The Salt Lake Temple has more than five spires above its main area featuring a statue depicting an ancient American prophet from the Book of Mormon, named Moroni. The more than two-ton statue was hammered out of copper and overlaid with 22-karat gold leaf. Additionally, the temple offers a cafeteria and clothing rental services.
