The people that run this place are very rude. And the books are expensive. $2.50 mininimum on all books, even the older paperbacks.

Great store! They found all the books I needed except one in used, and ordered that one for me. It was in two days later.

My favorite bookstore! Found all my books in the used section, dirt cheap. Very satisfied.

Packed!

This store is great. I don't know how they do it but they manage to pack tens of thousands of books in. You can practically get lost wandering the shelves. Oh yeah, and they know their books!

You can't miss this place... W...

You can't miss this place... Well actually it's pretty easy, as it's tucked away off of commercial. I'd be a liar if I said I don't enjoy having a nearly companionless shop like this one to roam freely, but these folks deserve your business more than I need my space. I thought my boyfriend had to be grossly exaggerating when he began going on about his first visit to Escape Fiction, claiming that it was literally covered in books. He said there were books not only on every shelf they have somehow managed to cram in there, but pinned to the walls and tucked away in almost every nook and cranny. As it turns out, he's not a liar either. This lovely shop is not just filled with books, it's positively rich with literary gems. The only time I have I walked out without a giant stack of fine books is when I came in with no wallet. With foreign books, the best sci-fi around, all the classics you like to pretend that you've read, references, romance, crime, the unclassified ones and more, Escape Fiction, no doubt, has the best selection I've ever seen in a book shop, it's infinitely more charming than any Powell's and much more reasonable in price (or in the shopkeepers' opinions perhaps ridiculous). I must have purchased 8 or 9 very special classic German books for a whopping *drumroll please* twenty-seven dollars today. You owe it to yourself and to the delightfully good-natured, good-humored and quickwitted owners to stop by and treat yourself to an experience that feels like something straight out of The Pagemaster. I assure you, you'll end up walking out at least a little smarter (or a bit more awesome) than you were before.

Ms

I've been doing business with Escape Fiction since either 1996 or 1998. So I can't remember that far back. What can I say!!! I buy all my new and used books there. I also bring my books in in trade. That is when I can get myself to part with them. I guess I would be called a bookaholic. I wouldn't do business with any other book store in town. If you can't remember a book title or author but can desribe the plot one of the owners can usually tell you the title and author. Or if one of their long time customers who are usually prolific readers is in the store one of them may be able to answer your questions. Escape Fiction is more then a book store. It's also a place of great conversations about anything and everything. To their long time regular customers they are more then just book store owners they are like family. They always treat you with the utmost respect and civility. They gladly answer your questions and will look up books for you at your request. I send them a

Great Option!

This is by far my favorite stop for books in Salem. The owners work long hours and their knowledge is outstanding. If you're unsure of what to read, they will make suggestions based on your interests.. I highly recommend you check them out!

Excellent Bookshop

Not the range of, say, Book Bin, but within it's arena, the selection is amazing. Friendly people, who know the genres they stock. SF, Fantasy, Adventure, etc. Also new books -- and they have managed to have some of my favorite authors' works on the shelves before the nasty big box stores.######There are a number of excellent booksellers in Salem, and this is one of the best. A little care is required in finding them the first time, but that is a minimal quibble.

Notably good service experience, have been dealing with them for 15 years

First, they have a knack for getting book I want, even books I can't find elsewhere. Second, if you read more mainstream type books, they have a trade-in program for books where you get credit for books. That makes their prices cheaper then Internet sources of books. Third, my wife loves them since they know all the authors that my wife likes.
