The requirement for fingerprint services and fingerprint based background checks has grown at an unprecedented rate. Throughout the nation, state governments have begun adopting policies that require fingerprint based criminal history record checks. The FBI is now leading civil fingerprinting into the digital age. Due to the change in FBI policy for fingerprinting, the DCJIS no longer accepts fingerprint cards for processing and instead require electronic submission via live scan at either the state or service provider level. The demand for electronic live scan fingerprinting has now become a requirement for FBI results. Massachusetts took its first step with complying with the biometric era when signing into effect “An Act Relative to Background Checks”.
