Lemay Plumbing has been serving the St. Louis areas' residential and commercial plumbing needs for over 50 years. Our family plumbing service business was established in 1955, by my grandfather, Art Hartmann. My father, Charlie Hartmann grew up helping Grandpa and joined him in the business. In 1982, the business was handed over to Charlie, and was moved to our present location. In the years since, we had a retail showroom and parts department and offered plumbing service. In 2002, the retail portion of the business was closed, so we could concentrate our resources on providing our valued customers with the level of service that they deserved. My sister Shelly Chambliss joined the company in 1982, and still serves as the office manager, bookkeeper and paycheck signer. We have to be nice to her! Like my father, I grew up in the trade. I came onboard in 1987, after receiving an engineering degree from UMR, then realizing that I would be happier being part of our family business.

The cost and quality of workmanship from Lemay Plumbing for repairs is as good as with any other plumbing company.

But.... Don't get a bid from them for anything more than a repair.

I requested a bid from Lemay Plumbing on 7/20 for work to be done to meet STL county occupancy inspections and identified that the work would have to be done no later than the week of August 1 as I was closing on the sale of the home on 8/16. The fail point on the inspection was simple, but the work advised was more than extensive. After receiving a second bid that was less than half of the estimate and addressed only the issues that STL county noted, I went with the second bid.

I received the bid from Lemay Plumbing on 8/15 (two weeks after I already had the work done and the day before I was scheduled to close on the house), and the bid was 50% more than the estimate I received at the time of the bid, and 350% higher than the other bid I obtained just to address the inspection issue.

Very prompt service. Called and they responded within 2 hours.

Service technician was very knowledgable, gave me several options and gave accurate pricing before the job was started.

He cleaned up when the job was complete and wore booties to help keep the house clean.

Very pleased!!!!!

Would never go back.

They put a tubliner in for us. When it first arrived it had been measured incorrectly and did not fit. After more waiting & the liner properly installed, they could not tell me how to properly clean it without damaging the material the liner was made of. I had to call the company who manufactured the liner for an answer. A few years later we decided to remodel the rest of the bathroom. I went to them for a bid, and by the time they got me the bid - we had already had the work done by someone else. They gave both of us the feeling they did not need our business.
