If I could, I would give this shop NEGATIVE 5 stars! The word limit doesn't permit me to explain all of the crazy things I had to endure with Babel but I will touch on the major issues. First, she attempted to cancel my apt after I arrived to her shop, an apt that I had made a week prior AND had come into the shop that Tuesday to ask questions and reconfirm my apt. She claimed she was sick but decided to come in 2 hours late with a sundress and a to go box to do my hair...only after I threatened her staff that I would go elsewhere with my money. While braiding, she ran out of hair, even after one of her braiders had specifically instructed me to purchase 10 bags of Zuri. I gave her $10 to go purchase 5 more bags, she came back with the wrong color hair. Instead of picking color #1 (black hair) she picked #1b (black/brown hair). She told me there wasn't a difference between the two as if I was an idiot who had never worn weave. Once I explained the difference and told her that we could install the hair and then see how the finished product looked, she forced ME to go back and make the exchange. Yep that's right, she sat down while I, with half of my hair done, had to use my gas to go exchange the hair b/c she made the mistake. 2 days later a braid unraveled. She had someone in her shop repair it. That same day, after I came from the shop, 4 more braids unraveled, 1 braid came out and 2 looked like they were on the verge of breaking. I came back in that Friday, one week from the day I originally had them done, and Babel acted as if she didn't know me. She didn't greet me she didn't apologize for her sloppy work, nothing. A young lady, who was exceptionally nice, fixed my hair. Keep in mind, Babel never offered me a discount for all of the b.s., she never even apologized. Very rude and has no customer service skills. I spent $260 plus $30 on hair for senegalese twists and I will never visit this shop again. Don't go to this shop unless you want some dissatisfaction! Unprofessional, rude and ill-mannered. If you do decided to book an appt, I would suggest calling the day before and making sure Babel doesn't, "fall sick," before your appt.

THE WORST

I paid $230 for micro braids and they look more like "dookie braids". When asked to fix them they gave me the run around then finally gave in. Instead of doing a proper job the second time around they simply took my hair down in the middle and attached more hair to the already gigantic braids.. So unhappy, worst experience EVER.

I had my hair done at Babel African Hair Braiding in March. My hair still looks very good. The braider who did mine was a friend of the owner. I went to the restroom once during the 8 hours I was there. She was very content and braided straight through. One of the best experiences I've had getting my hair done. This is probably the 5th time I've ever gotten braids. Plus they show you pictures of their styles so you can show them the style you want and the size of the braid.

They do exceptional work until...

They do exceptional work until there is a problem. I took my 2 daughters 7 and 9 for braids as i had done before. This was their 3rd time with Babel. My youngest daughter, for some reason, was not dealing with the pain of tight braiding this particular day for some reason and could not go any further leaving her with half her head done. It was too the point she was screaming and crying and trying to get out of the seat while they where braiding. So as her mom, i of course said, ok, enough is enough, she is done. I had to physically stop the lady from braiding as she acted as if she couldn't hear me say stop or understand english now. So i said, "We just need to figure out what to do about payment", of course i had already paid. Long story short, they kept trying to MAKE me make my daughter continue with the torture of getting her hair done because there are no refunds and how Babel herself makes her own daughter sit their through the torture and whoops her if she tries to cry or get up. I of course was like "HELL NO", it aint that serious and im not finna just make my child get tortured beacause ya'll want the money. She has gotten it done several times before without any problems, so i trust her that this time was just unbareable for her and that's the end of it. So they talked in their language for a long time before saying anything to me and very sarcasticly gave me half my money back, and then they continued to talk in their language afterwards and then came back over to me to say that they dont think i should get half and I should give like $20 back because they had to buy hair for her. I was like all that was included in the initial price, you guys did half her head and used half of the hair, so this is fare. It started to get crazy,.but mind you, my oldest daughter is stil getting braided at this point,..so long story short again, they ended up sloppedly finishing my daughter hair which started to unravel weeks later. So since they were not able to professionaly handle a situation that could easily happen again,..I have not been back and won't. My daughters and I now patronize another african hair braider who is wonderful.

I've been to lots of african shops around St Louis and this is the only shop i would recommend. They only took 4 hours to do my micros and i was out by 1pm. My braids looked very neat. They made me feel very comfortable and at the end of the day my MONEY WAS WORTH IT.
