I wish I could offer commentary on Dr. Chen's medical skills, but I was told by his receptionist NOT to seek out his services.
“I don't think this is the doctor for you,” she said.
This came after an interrogation about my insurance, whether I had met my deductible for the year, and a warning about the co-pays. That last one was an insinuation that I'd better be able to furnish cash at the time of service.
These questions are the sort of thing I might expect at the office. But the initial appointment, I was quickly learning, was predicated on a greedy receptionist's interrogation about just how much cash I would be able to furnish the business.
“Why are you asking me all these questions about money?” I asked. “Shouldn't we also be talking about my medical needs and helping me heal?"
“I don't think this is the doctor for you,” she replied.
I have a strong suspicion the receptionist is Dr. Chen's wife.
I hope they make lots of money.
I guess that's what being a doctor is all about.
