With over three decades of teaching experience, my method is based on the absolute belief that, from the very beginning, students should be taught musicality and musical expression. This includes the appropriate technique, theory, reading skills, and various touches used by the greatest of pianists. My early studies with teachers from the old German school ingrained in me the importance of playing musically and expressively. Developing a good ear for music along with a strong technique enables students to master all styles of music from Baroque to Contemporary. My teaching has, also, been heavily influenced by Russian technique with its great emphasis on the accurate use of weight in developing depth of expression and clarity. As a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, I offer students the opportunity to participate in the National Piano Playing Auditions. This annual event provides goals and invaluable feedback to further musical development. Auditions are typically followed by "piano parties" where students can play for each other and celebrate their achievements. My ultimate goal is to inspire young pianists. I am highly skilled and experienced in communicating with children, tailoring lessons to students based on their age, personality, and individual needs. Lessons and practicing should be fun, leading to a lifelong love and appreciation of music.
