Disrespectful and unprofessional. Specifically told both Terri and Charlie not to file an extension for my returns for 2017; they did so anyways. Called Charlie about it and he was dismissive and hung up on me. Wait time is also 3 hours even with an appt. Save your money and find a reputable CPA who conducts themselves with integrity.

I have been using them for over 20 years. We have NEVER been treated with anything less than perfect. Yes you might have to wait.. but the wait is TOTALLY worth it

My parents had been going to Charlie for years, so I did as well when I started taking care of my own taxes after college. What a massive mistake, in just about every regard.

When you arrive at the office, you'll wait about two hours past your appointment time until you are hurried back to a computer desk with one of Charlie's assistants. Usually it's Chris, an obese redhead who never fails to be offensive or belittling in some regard, either to you or your spouse, both of whom are probably doing much better in life than this scumbag. He'll fill in a bunch of information, about 30% of which will be based on previous years, regardless what has changed for you.

Charlie will then come in after another half hour or so of your waiting to check up on numbers, ask you a bunch of questions about certain things and then fiddle with numbers until he gets you a modest return, or minimizes the amount you owe. The numbers he enters have little basis in fact and pose a tremendous liability.

Years ago, after graduating from school, I was audited because of numbers Charlie had entered based on figures he completely made up. When attempting to seek assistance from Charlie (or anyone in his office) in response to the IRS, we received only concise, unhelpful answers such as "just tell them no," and "send it back, it will be fine." It was not fine and interest kept stacking up. Ultimately, Charlie's "creativity" with numbers and disregard for his clients cost me thousands in back taxes because I made the mistake of trusting that he knew what he was doing.

Three years later, the ever-diligent Chris followed up with me to inquire about a note they had found about my IRS audit. I had long since taken my business elsewhere and could not believe that they thought it was appropriate to call me, out of the blue, to check on a three year old issue, assuming it hadn't been resolved because of their complete inaction.

Charlie sees thousands of clients. You're just a number to him.

Last year taxes, Charles found a big mistake that had happen for a couple years past. Yes, there is a wait. But so what... Hello people, Its tax time! He and his staff, has always been nice to us. Yes, he is going to give you some ideas, for you to get the most of your money for next year. Isn't that what you want to hear? How to leave more in your pocket and not Uncle Sam's. Yes, Charles likes to joke, and always has a smile on his face, considering he has to work with a lot of different scenarios this time of year. Kudos him!

I have never had the pleasure of paying for someone to treat me so poorly. After leaving Charlie’s, I was baffled. I came in for a simple and straight forward tax filing, he treated me in very rude manner. He spoke to me like a child needing a scolding, and was just short of shouting at me, in a room full of people. Not to mention the 2 hours spent in the waiting room.

Worst accountant in St. Louis....

Worst accountant in St. Louis. First off I might as well have gone to H&R Block and taken a number. The staff looked overworked, was unfriendly and acted like they just wanted to shuffle me out of there as fast as possible to get on to the next sucker. But that's not my real complaint.

Short Story:

My mom died of cancer in October. Being the beneficiary of her IRA, I had a decision I had to make on how much of a distribution to take out since I was forced to take something. Thinking him capable, I turned to her accountant, Charles Bratkowski, for advice. We went over some numbers and, because I wasn't making that much income since I was going to school for IT training, he told me to take out a sum which he thought would be low enough for me to take advantage of the low tax bracket I was in and keep me in that bracket.

Turns out he over-estimated by a long shot and told me to take way too much out.

I made 23k last year in income working at a job that was getting me through school. Before I even stepped in his door, I had paid almost 15k in taxes between property, income and the taxes I'd already paid on the IRA distribution. I had all kinds of deductions and charitable donations. And somehow, I ended up in a 25% tax bracket and had to shell out almost another 3k in taxes. He made some short, off-hand comment about how well we did, shook my hand and then moved on.

Either this man is totally incompetent or completely indifferent, but either way, he'll never see my face again.
